While some believe that we have achieved all the rights we need, the reality is more complex. It is true that significant progress has been made in many areas, but challenges remain—especially for women facing systemic barriers due to their circumstances. The JustHer! project firmly believes that the fight for women’s empowerment is far from over, particularly for migrant and refugee women who continue to struggle for access to education, economic opportunities, and meaningful participation in their host societies.
International Women’s Day and the month of March provide an important opportunity to highlight the ongoing struggle for women’s rights. To mark this occasion, JustHer! launched a campaign in Spain to collect and share the stories of migrant women. Many of these testimonies highlight the harsh realities of forced displacement—whether fleeing war in Ukraine or escaping organised crime in Colombia. These women not only had to leave everything behind but also faced new challenges in their host countries, including language barriers, bureaucratic hurdles, and cultural adaptation.
Their stories serve as a powerful reminder that, while we celebrate progress, there is still work to be done. Women’s empowerment must go beyond legal rights; it must translate into real opportunities and support systems for those who need them the most.
